VERA ADDITIONS

VERA, COTESLOE
PROJECT TYPE: ADDITION

Love of a grand bungalow inspired this addition which weaves around the original with a gentle embrace.

Newly remarried David and Sandie fell in love with this Grand Bungalow on Cottesloe’s Broome Street. However it suffered from a careless previous addition. They wanted to remake it as a home for their new life together, whilst retaining the wonder of the original building.

It also had to house multiple generations of visiting family members and regular stays by grandchildren in their large blended family.

They wanted to retain an existing pool and this left very little additional space to work with.

So up we went. An additional master suite is inserted above without dominating the original facade. North facing clerestory windows bathe the space in winter sunshine. The new bedroom hovers over the kitchen as a mezzanine to the living areas enclosed in its own timber box. The original roofline is respected and carried through to form a generous shade structure to the alfresco. Housing a double volume living area behind a cascade of glazing.

Playful intersections of rooms in the addition create a beguiling space. Where materials and view overlap with a delightful complexity.

Builder: Owner Builder;
Status: Completed (2026).
